Planning the Training Session
A game of touch requires the use of all energy systems in
different ratios and at different times during the game, therefore the training
session must focus on all three systems appropriately. We however need to plan
our training session accordingly as there would not be enough time to include
all three energy systems in this training session. In a game of touch short
sharp bursts of energy is used at high levels of intensity between 85% to full
capacity, followed by rest periods. Examples include rucking, running back and
sprinting. These components therefore show the anaerobic system is at work most
compared to the aerobic system which is only used occasionally. Overtime
training the anaerobic system will by nature also train the aerobic energy
system to the standard we need. Hence it is obvious that most of the drills in
our training session should focus on the anaerobic. With the high intensity and
anaerobic system containing work and rest periods, our training program should
also be specified to either interval or fartlek training.
The training drills presented in this training session have been aimed around interval and fartlek training. The 8 minute training drill and first 10 minute drills re interval whilst the second 10 minute drill is fartlek. Incorporating and specifying the drills around these training principles will work the anaerobic energy system and allow for the players to reach 85% to their maximum heart rate or 'the red zone'. Reaching this zone and working in it for a period of time will allow the team members to work and improve their anaerobic system which is needed specifically in touch.
Team members Jade, Bella, Blaire and Kaitlyn will complete 2 repetitions of each drill, however when referring to the fitness results it can be seen that James is fitter. He would therefore need to complete the circuit's 4 times to ensure his heart rate is over the required intensity (85%+).
